Appetite for Action Supporters

In 2011 we are working with a number of different supporters who are very excited about helping YOU take action in your school and garden. As a registered school you can benefit from the exclusive discounts. As a registered Challenge School you could be chosen by the Appetite for Action Team as our “School of the Week” and win fantastic prizes donated by our extremely generous supporters:  

January Hen and Hammock – helping people beautify gardens the eco-friendly way   

We are extremely pleased to welcome back Hen and Hammock who are once again generously donating prizes to School’s of the Week throughout January. The winning schools will be able to frighten off any potential seed nibblers as Hen and Hammock will be sending them all a wonderful Scarecrow Kit. Partly made from recycled materials, both children and the environment will love the creative side of building their own scarecrows. 

February GoGrow – encouraging children to grow their own exciting vegetables           

GoGrow are kindly donating ‘Healthy Veg, Healthy Kids’ seed collections containing 5 tasty vegetable varieties to our School’s of the Week in February. These packs include seeds to grow; lucious lettuce, crazy carrots, punchy pumpkins, tantalising tomatoes and some cracking cress, with all these amazing veggies to plant can you guess who will be gobbling them up?!

February Garden Innovations – developing innovative products to help the environment                 

Garden Innovations will be generously donating to the lucky winning school’s in February everything that a keen gardener needs to grow by providing GrowtubesGrow Pots  and Growbag Waterers. With these fantastic prizes schools will really be able to show how big their Appetite for Action is, by tucking into some tasty home grown goodies in no time! An easy way to your five-a-day! 

March B & Q – the DIY and gardening superstore                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               

Appetite for Action is very happy to welcome back our generous supporters B & Q, who are once again giving a great helping hand to winning schools in March.

Just in time for them to ‘spring’ into action, each School of the Week will receive an Ecomax 200 Plus compost bin, heated and unheated B & Q propagator trays a  large and small square top round granite effect base pot and a set of Fiskars hand tools. That’s enough gardening gifts to keep your whole school busy, let alone your Action Team!

April Rocket Gardens – sharing their passion for plants so that everyone can get growing

Rocket Gardens are kindly offering their specially designed School Spring Garden to the lucky School’s of the Week in April. These incredible sets have all the tools and teaching resources you could need to become a gardening genius and have a bumper harvest by the end of term. This includes more than 150 baby plants ready and raring to be planted, lesson plans, growing guides and some organic wormcase fertiliser. 

Any schools wishing to buy a garden for their school can save £20 by ordering both a Spring and Autumn School’s Garden. So what are you waiting for? Let’s get growing!

May Dorset Cereals – simple pleasures are often the most rewarding                                 

Dorset Cereals are kindly donating 4 beautiful ‘Grow your Own’ wooden garden boxes for the winning schools in May enabling the pupils to grow and experience their very own honest, tasty and real food. The pupils will be well equipped with the various gardening tools and seed packets that are included – all you need for a planting frenzy to make the most of those early summer days.

June Wildlife World – designing award winning and unique wildlife products                                  

Wildlife World will be generously providing the School’s of the Week in June with some wildlife wonders that will keep everyone in the garden happy. They will be helping the rest of the school befriend their winged neighbours by providing wonderful nesting boxes, forest nesters ,  bee hives and veggie sticks. These fantastic prizes will ensure that everyone can learn about how they can help the wildlife in their school and at home.     


2010 Walker Books – the independent children’s book store                                                    

Appetite for Action is extremely pleased to welcome back Walker Books who are once again generously offering a 25% discount on all book title orders made via the Walker website throughout 2011. Walker Books have a huge variety of children’s literature available online including environmentally themed books – and the offer is open to ALL of our registered schools. Walker Books continue to help children’s imaginations grow, from the deepest root to the tallest tree.

February – April GoGrow – encouraging children to grow their own exciting vegetables

GoGrow have also been very thoughtful in making sure that all of our green fingered friends are kept busy, by providing a huge 40% discount on all seed orders of 10 packets or more for all registered Appetite for Action schools.

How to claim your discount codes: Send your schools full name to [email protected] and we will email you with the discount code. Please indicate which discount code you require in the subject title e.g. ‘GoGrow Appetite for Action 40% discount’ or ‘Walker Books Appetite for Action 25% discount’.

The Appetite for Action programme has been developed in partnership between the leading environmental behaviour change charity Global Action Plan and Sky. Global Action Plan has run the Action in School programme successfully with over 300 schools, helping them to make small changes that make a big difference. The Appetite for Action programme with Sky will allow many more schools to benefit from the process.
